Fast Websites

Ok so if you want speed then this is how you can get it with Divi.

    • Choose a great hosting company. One that has a CMS that you can experiment with.
    • Use a cache manager plugin, that works with the CMS.
    • Plan your website so that there aren’t resource heavy features on the homepage.
    • be prepared to compromise with the images and slides and videos.

Since the performance update the whole issue with Divi has changed. It’s now possible to carefully use Divi to get high performance websites. The secret I believe is to continuously test against the Google Pagespeed Insights.

Why do I use the Divi theme?

Ok so up to to big performance update Divi theme did have some issues. I sent hours figuring out ways to make it a fast as possible. Then there was the update! – Now it’s possible to score 100’s on the Google page speed calculator.

Why do you need a fast blog or website?

It’s easy. Google wants you to have one. The user gets information quickly and that makes Google smile. What more do you need to know?

Before the performance update.

I started a quest to find a way to make sites built with Divi Fast. My initial experiments included using the Divi page builder with the Elementor theme ‘Hello’ and it achieved some great results. This was interesting as using the Divi page builder would give me a very low cost but fully licenced solution.

I tried the same with a fresh installation of Divi. To my surprise it was pretty fast. So actually just using the Divi theme I was getting Google page Speed Scores of 100 but with a stripped down website and I thought things are going well and expected that to change when I added plugins and images as you would.

How to get things really moving!

I started talking to my web host and it turns out that when you add more than one cache plugin they start working against each other and conflicting.  The best way I have found is to minimise the plugins and optimise images by exporting them as WebP from the graphics package?

  • So if you want Fast you have to compromise. This site is actually built completely in Divi with the server cache the host provides, It is on shared hosting too.
  • It has a CDN which allows for all sorts of server side settings that optimise the site without plugins.
  • The default font is used.
  • The Custom page builder is used for header and footer designs.
  • The main page is just text. I am going to look at installing fonts and see if there is a way to improve the site by not just having the Default font.
  • I am going to look at optimising the CDN some more although that’s when weird cache things start to happen.

There are several steps you can take to make your website faster:

Use a content delivery network (CDN) to distribute your website’s static content, such as images and videos, to servers located around the world. This can reduce the distance that data has to travel, and improve the loading speed of your website.

Optimize your images by reducing their file size without sacrificing quality. This can reduce the amount of data that needs to be transferred, and improve the loading speed of your website.

Minimize the use of large, complex JavaScript and CSS files, as they can slow down your website. Instead, use small, focused scripts and stylesheets, and load them asynchronously to improve performance.

Enable caching on your website, which can store frequently accessed data in the user’s browser, and reduce the amount of data that needs to be transferred for repeat visits.

Use a web host that offers fast and reliable servers, as a slow server can significantly impact the loading speed of your website.

Regularly test and monitor your website’s performance using tools such as Google PageSpeed Insights, and identify and address any bottlenecks or issues that are impacting its speed.

By following these steps, you can improve the loading speed of your website and provide a better user experience for your visitors.
